Tagliamento River | Day 3
Caodroipo – Fraforeano
Distance 25 km
We were still a bit tired; in the distance, we could already see the massive road bridge SS13 and attached railway bridge with its 34 stone pillars; we ignited the fire and roasted some garlic bread – a real travelers breakfast.
It was time to get going. Both of us were a bit sad because we already reached the last full day on the Tagliamento.
The stream was getting smaller and smaller we had to get out of the raft every few kilometers, to pass shallow water. At road bridge SP95 “Ponte di Madrisio,” the Tagliamento narrows to a single arm. A beautiful river landscape with high-shores. The current nearly disappears, and the riverbed becomes increasingly sandy. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of garbage at the side of the river.
We were still not sure if we should paddle close to Latisana and fetch the train early in the morning or take it slow and drive home during midday the next day.
At this stage, the Tagliamento is passable the entire year. We decided to look for a campsite and called it a day.
A vast empty sandbank was already waiting for us… Both of us were looking forward to a hot warm shower and a warm comfy bed. The hot campfire with its direction changing fume wasn’t helping our freshness; we went to bed at 9:00 pm.
